Marie Cooper RGN BSc MSc

Marie is a nurse with 35 years’ experience of clinical leadership with an expertise in practice development across a range of care settings. These include acute & community trusts, hospices and a South African community township. Having delivered change in her previous roles, she now supports others to do so. Her area of interest is in working with leaders to develop high performance teams and practice. Such opportunities have given her a clarity about the many issues nurse leaders and those engaged in palliative care delivery face today.

From 2014 to June 2019 Marie was Practice Development Lead for Hospice UK which enabled her to work with hospice clinical leaders and national organisations to champion the delivery of high quality, accessible palliative care such as the CQC, Dementia UK and NHS England.  Key projects included the leadership of several communities of practice; patient safety benchmarking and the development of national clinical guidelines. Marie also collaborated on the development of the Hospice UK Quality Improvement (QI) programme for hospice and worked with acute hospital colleagues on a QI project to understand the experience of the end of life care through the eyes of the carer within their hospitals.

Marie continues to be kept busy looking after her amazing 94-year-old mother and working as a freelance consultant – offering project management, mentoring and facilitation for individual nurses and nursing teams as well as working with like-minded associates on improvement initiatives.
